The Hydration Hype

Nothing in the diet and fitness industry drives me crazier.... Just kidding....A LOT of things in the diet and fitness industry drive me crazy.

THIS concept made me feel HOPELESS and SAD and like a FAILURE. "You aren't hungry, you are thirsty." "Drink water before each meal. It will fill you and help you eat less." "CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!" Seriously?? When I want food, I want FOOD....and drinking a gallon before I pick up a fork doesn't help me eat less....it makes me slosh and it makes me uncomfortable. It makes me sad. It kinda pisses me off. So? I want you to drink your water....8-16 oz before you eat a snack or meal.

NOT for satiety. NOT to save calories. NOT to save you from dying from dehydration (because unless you have a disease or you are ill, your body won't let you....) Grabbing a bottle of water before you eat gives you TIME. That water will take you OUT of "auto-pilot" on a bowl of chips or bag of candy. It will give you a minute in social situations and at restaurants to take a breath and remember your healthy goals. Sipping will allow you to peruse a buffet and make wise decisions on what goes on your plate. It's NOT about the water. It's about the PAUSE. It's NOT about clear urine, it's about INTENTION. It's NOT about taking up space in your belly, because that's not the space that needs to be filled. Right?? The magic isn't in the water bottle.

The magic is in YOU and the time it takes to sip and remember to take care of YOU. Will you always opt out of that bowl of chips, bag of candy, dessert end of the buffet? Nope. But you will be better aware of your choices and feel empowered, regardless.

You get plenty of water in your healthy foods such as greens, fruits, legumes, rice, etc.

You WILL drink when you are thirsty (in a healthy state). Your body naturally seeks balance and keeps you there for survival. So drink your water...your coffee...your tea...(which, recent studies reveal AREN'T dehydrating). NOT to fill your tummy, but to empower you to make better choices and reach your healthy goals.
