Rainy Days and Cos Play

When I was a little girl my favorite form of play was dress up.

"Back in the day" the only time you could buy "costumes" was the weeks before Halloween. We didn't have Amazon, Target or WalMart to purchase Disney Princess Dresses and we sure as hell didn't have the internet for Cos Play gear.

"Back in the day" we had an old trunk full of clothes discarded from our granny's closet...beautiful satin dressed and glittery shoes that we crawled into once we found the zipper hiding in yards of taffeta and sequins. The shoes were usually just as ornate. How we didn't trip and break something is beyond me. This was typically a rainy day activity, because "back in the day" the only time we were inside was when it would cause too much housework to have us outside, dragging in mud and dripping water. What a treat it was to have access to that beat up trunk full of musty memories!

It was magic! A Bride! A Princess! A Fancy Lady! Lace, straps, hats, gloves!!! As the rain poured outside we transformed into anything we wanted to be! It was glorious..... Dressing up, pretending, and "acting as if' is still magical, even for adults. All great religious texts encourage us to "become as little children" and to "be transformed by the changing of our minds." Think about it. We daydream, we set goals, we hope and wish for the best....but most of the time we are not changing our minds. In the middle of our rainiest days all we do is look at the rain and miss the sunshine instead of going into that trunk and thinking differently. What is it you want to do? Do you want to be a published author? Dig into that trunk. What does a published author do? He writes. EVERYDAY Do you want to be a Chef? Dig into that trunk. What does a successful Chef do? He cooks. EVERYDAY.

Want to improve your health? Dig into that trunk. What does a healthy person do? ....get it? It might sound silly to you, but you actually do this EVERYDAY, unintentionally. Most of the time you are turning your back on the trunk, where all the fun is, and choosing to focus on your current condition. It's Transformation Tuesday.....but I encourage you to start acting like the person you want to be by changing your mind EVERYDAY. Take time everyday to dig into that trunk, your imagination, and spend some time pretending, playing and thinking on better things. Take your eyes from your wet and soggy limiting beliefs, just for a little bit. It will change your life.
